Edda

AI point-defense turret built to stop multiple fast FPV drones at 10–100 m.

Edda is the first product from 9 Mothers — an AI-powered point-defense turret built for the engagements that conventional counter-UAS systems struggle with: small, fast, multi-drone threats inside 100 metres, in cluttered urban and base-perimeter settings. The company describes it as counter-drone built for speed rather than range, and says it is shipping now.

Detection is fully passive. Edda first picks up a drone from its own acoustic signature — coarse tracking with no radio emission — and an onboard, in-house visual model then refines that into fine targeting, holding the track even when the drone is partly occluded. Keeping the sensing passive, with optional active radar, means the turret can see incoming FPV drones without broadcasting a signal that reveals its position. That same passive-acoustic approach is the basis of the company’s planned standalone sensor, Vor.

Engagement is where the close-range bet shows. Edda pairs an ultra-light motion platform — quoted at five degrees of slew in under fifteen milliseconds, at 1.5 arc-minute precision — with a shotgun effector sized for small drones at 10 to 100 metres. The aim is to swing and fire fast enough to defeat several seven-inch FPV drones at the speeds they actually attack, and cheaply enough to use against an attritable threat.

Independent combat results are not yet available, and detailed specifications beyond the headline figures the company publishes have not been released. What 9 Mothers is selling is a thesis about the shape of modern air defence: that the decisive engagement now happens within a hundred metres, and that it has to be answered with autonomy, low cost and speed.
