Ukraine licences domestic Aster 30 production to reduce reliance on Patriot stockpiles

Published

Ukraine has obtained a licence to manufacture the Aster 30 surface-to-air missile — the round fired by SAMP/T systems already in Ukrainian service — in an effort to address the chronic shortage of interceptor rounds, particularly against ballistic threats where Patriot supplies are critically constrained. Ukraine retains Soviet-era industrial capacity for missile production, including facilities at Pivdenmash and the Yangel design bureau. The pace and stability of any licensed production programme remains uncertain.
