Ukraine deploys UAV-dropped pressure-activated cluster sub-munitions — Russian analysts document recovered example

Published 16 October 2026

Russian UAV analysts document a munition dropped from a Ukrainian drone onto Russian positions: a cassette-type device assessed as pressure-activated, engineered to survive the drone-drop impact without detonating but trigger under footstep pressure — analogous in concept to the US Gravel mine series. Initial scepticism was overcome after a test ignition produced a detonation consistent with high explosive. The item represents a further step in adapting drone delivery to anti-personnel area-denial operations.
