Russian domestic drone video link 'Chimera' transmits in open broadcast with no encryption

Published

A Russian domestic UAV video link called ‘Chimera’ — built around a single-board computer and RF amplifier — was reviewed critically within the Russian UAV engineering community for operating in plain broadcast mode with no channel keys or encryption, making it straightforward for an adversary within range to intercept the live feed. The unit delivers a genuine 0.5 W output at a reasonable price point, but reviewers flagged the security gap as requiring urgent correction, alongside mechanical antenna design flaws that risk cable damage in the field.
