Russian airfield communications fail when own EW activates, leaving aircraft clustered on open aprons

Published

Questions addressed to Russia’s incoming Air Force commander, circulated across multiple milblogger channels, expose two compounding vulnerabilities at front-area airfields: communications between base units and adjacent SAM and radar systems break down whenever Russian EW systems are switched on, blinding the operators who most need situational awareness; and a shortage of mobile power aggregators forces groups of 4th++ generation aircraft onto shared open aprons, massing them as high-value targets. Both faults are described as unresolved four years into the war, with billions in allocated construction funds reportedly unaccounted for.
