Australia unveils Ghost Shark payloads for mines, supplies, and Altius drones

Bottom line

Australian sources report the Ghost Shark autonomous underwater vehicle now supports three new payloads: sea mines, seabed supply caches, and launching Anduril Altius aerial drones.

Why it matters

The ability to launch aerial drones from submerged platforms significantly extends the standoff range and stealth of reconnaissance or strike missions, posing a new challenge for maritime air defense and anti-submarine warfare.

OSINTdefender reports that Australia has unveiled three new operational payloads for the Ghost Shark autonomous underwater vehicle (UUV). These capabilities include deploying up to 12 sea mines, leaving supply caches on the seabed, and launching Anduril Altius aerial drones. This expands the Ghost Shark’s role from pure surveillance or strike to multi-domain logistics and air-launch platforms.
