SkyAtom

Ukrainian maker of the Sky Devil fixed-wing reconnaissance drone, navigated without GPS using a beacon-based system.

SkyAtom is a Ukrainian company building surveillance and reconnaissance drones. Its flagship system, the Sky Devil, is a fixed-wing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft whose defining feature is that it navigates without GPS, using an in-house beacon-based positioning system so it can keep flying under the electronic-warfare jamming and spoofing that saturate the front. The drone is catapult-launched and recovered by parachute, with reported endurance of up to four hours, a tactical radius of around 70 km and a maximum range of about 280 km, and it carries a gyrostabilised camera combining daylight and thermal imaging with high optical zoom.

SkyAtom’s push to remove the satellite-navigation dependency places it alongside other Ukrainian firms working on GPS-free flight, such as NORDA Dynamics . The Sky Devil has received a NATO codification and entered serial production, and is listed for procurement on the Brave1 Market, the defence-innovation cluster’s catalogue for Ukraine’s forces. The endurance and range figures are drawn from the company’s own specifications and coverage of them.
