GRIM

A Ukrainian maker of combat FPV strike drones, including fiber-optic models resistant to jamming.

GRIM is a Ukrainian developer and producer of combat first-person-view (FPV) drones used by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Its line includes the namesake Grim strike drone (about 2.5 kg payload to roughly 20 km), the heavier 10-inch Hromylo (about 3.5 kg to 20 km), and the Volyniaka hexacopter (around 10 kg to 30 km). The company says it has produced tens of thousands of airframes deployed on the battlefield and runs a semi-automatic production line.

GRIM also builds fiber-optically guided models — Grim Optic and Hromylo Optic — that trail a thin spool of optical cable instead of using a radio link, making them effectively immune to electronic jamming, at the cost of a tether-limited range of around 10 km. Ukraine’s Defence Ministry codified a fiber-optic Hromylo system for service use during a 2025 wave of approvals for such drones, as the country sought unjammable strike options for the front. GRIM is one of the manufacturers cleared to take part in Ukraine’s DOT-Chain Defence procurement program, alongside firms such as Vyriy Drone , Escadrone and TAF Drones.
