Aerobavovna
Maker of tethered aerostats for SIGINT, electronic warfare and drone relay, developing an aerostat-launched interceptor against Shahed-type drones.
Aerobavovna is a Ukrainian startup that builds tethered aerostats — small, captive balloons that loiter over the front line carrying sensor and radio payloads. Its baseline model lifts up to about 6 kilograms and is used mainly as a long-range repeater for radio communications and drone control; co-founder Yurii Vysoven has said a smaller unit can be readied in roughly seven minutes and costs on the order of a thousand dollars. In 2025 the company introduced a heavier aerostat able to carry 25 to 30 kilograms, pitched at higher-altitude signals-intelligence and electronic-warfare equipment. The company has supplied Ukrainian forces since 2023, and reporting in 2025 put around 50 of its aerostats in operation.
The firm’s most-discussed project is an aerostat-launched interceptor aimed at Russian Shahed-type loitering munitions. As described by The War Zone and Ukrainian outlets, the concept suspends a sensor array and a launcher for a single fixed-wing “interceptor” drone beneath the balloon; an infrared camera would cue the release of the interceptor against an incoming kamikaze drone. The system was still in development as of mid-2025, and the degree of Aerobavovna’s involvement in some published demonstrations remained unclear. Some reporting links the interceptor effort to fellow Ukrainian startup Maxon Systems; a separate firm, Kvertus , has shown its own aerostat-mounted counter-drone sensor.
Aerobavovna sits in the dense cluster of small Ukrainian wartime suppliers turning improvised solutions into fielded hardware, alongside the country’s broader push to layer cheap detection and interception against the nightly waves of long-range strike drones.
